Questions to ask the rider

🤝

Get to know the rider

Your horse, your call. Don't be shy about asking.

Question 1

How long have you been riding, and how often do you ride at the moment?

Question 2

What types of horses have you ridden? (size, temperament, discipline etc)

Question 3

Are you comfortable handling horses from the ground? (catching, tacking up etc)

Question 4

How long are you hoping to loan for, and what can you commit to?

A written agreement protects both parties. The BHS offer a free sample loan agreement you can download, go to bhs.org.uk/horse-care-and-welfare/ownership-loaning/loaning-a-horse

Question 5

Do you have references from previous owners or yard managers?

Question 6

Question 7

Are you happy to do a meet & greet on the ground before riding?

Trust your instincts. You know your horse. If a rider doesn’t feel right in person, that matters more than anything on a profile.
